Hi there,
Just to say it is consoling (though not very helpful, perhaps) to hear 
that others are having the same problems.
Are you also being informed on booting up that HAL cannot be activated?
And have you found that the "Hibernate" option has disappeared from the 
close down panel?
Evolution is completelxy unstable, and Ubuntu is not finding the eth0 
connction on start up, am having to use ifconfig each time....
