I'm using the version that is shipped with Intrepid: Banshee 1.2.1
(1.2.1)

At first I thought you were right about the "Track Count" tag, but then
I found albums correctly sorted w/o the "Track Count" tag (see
attachments below).

I'll try the DB thing and will come back with results.
