[ubuntu-mono] [Bug 158131] Tomboy no longer starts; where do I get my notes?

Binary package hint: tomboy

I tried installing Gutsy persistent on a USB stick.  I guess the session
crashed at some point, or I removed the stick before shutdown was
complete, or something, but now, Tomboy refuses to start, and what's
worse, I can't find the notes I created.

It seems that the default notes
3200d2e8-71eb-4588-b845-5aa5f92a6a62.note and c239a2cf-dd58-4fd8-835d-
e108b11ea309.note (they are always named like this, right?) exist in
~/.tomboy but the other entries with note-like names don't even have
sensible file modes -- ls -l lists them as ?--------- instead of e.g.
-rw-r--r--

Attempting to start Tomboy results in absolutely nothing at all.
Because I'm an old-time 1337 h4x0r I looked in .xsession-errors, which
has some error message about being unable to start Tomboy.

(You should see the bright red color on black background dircolors
assigns to those puppies!)

I pale when I think about what urgent or confidential information I
could have jotted into those notes.  Now it was mainly notes for bug
reports about Ubuntu ... and it's back to Emacs for me, permanently.
