I can answer for him since I experienced it. You have to turn Compiz
off, and use the slideshow (I have not managed to see it with
fullscreen). This is difficult to get, I haven't really determined when
this occurs. Looks like you get it when the bar is hiding at the very
moment when the photo is changing (maybe with fade).

Note (I don't know whether this may be related) that the zone filling
the space between the rounded corners of the bar and the corners of the
rectangle it fits in are *black*, which is ugly (still without
compositing).
