Also encountering exactly the same symptoms with f-spot. Using an Acer
Aspire 1350 laptop with Athlon XP 2400+ which, as you guessed it, has a
VIA KM400 GPU... I've switched to using gThumb and uninstalling f-spot
for now. If there is any extra information you need me to provide,
please let me know (I won't be around much in the coming weeks as my
partner is expecting our son in early June, but I'll pop in when I can
:-)).
