Rebuilding libgphoto2 without hal support (dropping libhal-dev build dependency) works around this issue - apparantly the code in libgphoto2 isn't particularly well tested & may be broken. -- Mono segfaults in dbus_pending_call_get_completed() https://launchpad.net/bugs/59166
