I am experiencing this issue as well with xfce/xubuntu.

xubuntu-desktop v1.26
xfce4 v4.3.0-ubuntu1

In addition, the other autostarted applications are not being started.  These are (in the order they appear in the "Autostarted Applications" panel) Update Notifier, Beagle Search Tool, Volume Manager, Power Manager.
