** Summary changed:
- Beagle crashes upon attempted client load from keyboard shortcut
+ A warning should be popped up when a user selects a potentially dangerous keyboard shortcut
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: beagle
+
+ Original title: Beagle crashes upon attempted client load from keyboard
+ shortcut
I assigned the key sequence Ctrl+Alt+F12 to Beagle's search window in
GNOME. While beagled is running with options "--debug
/usr/lib/beagle/BeagleDaemon.exe --bg", I attempted to open the search
window by pressing the appropriate keys. This resulted in my display
being lost to a blinking cursor. I couldn't recover from the state in
any way, and had to force shutdown.
What I believe to be the relevant log messages will be attached in the
file that I upload as part of this report.
+
+ UPDATE: Turns out, courtesy of nixternal from #ubuntu-bugs, that
+ Ctrl+Alt+___s are GNOME hotkeys, and that Ctrl+Alt+F12 is supposed to
+ take you back to a command line! There was obviously no indication of
+ this in the Beagle search preferences window, and this could potentially
+ result in some very alarming and lossy situations for users who don't
+ know about it.
+
+ This is now really a Wishlist item...add a warning to the user when he
+ or she selects a potentially harmful keyboard shortcut for the Beagle
+ search window!
