Please could you provide information about the version of ubuntu you are using and how up-to-date it is, does f-spot dump a backtrace when you run it from a terminal? If so, please attach it to this bug by copying it to a text file and using the Add Attachment link in the top-left. Also please could you list the detailed steps that you take to reproduce the bug, and any further observations you might think are relevant. Thanks.
