Dear all,

Thanks for your all brainstorming.

Concerning Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, when Ubuntu 9.10 was released, Mark Shuttleworth and his team announced Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and it was planned that it will feature Gnome3, unfortunately after some 2 months the Gnome guys delayed its release for 9 more months to ensure quality. Gnome3 was supposed to be the big hype for 10.04 but there had to be a plan B, there had to be something they can do about it, so they changed the whole Ubuntu Theme to violet as you can see it and added Gwibber ( Social Client ) as well as updated the Ubuntu Software Center, they also changed the buttons layout to the left to give it a Mac look, which Mark Shuttleworth believes it will give the OS a high profile but I still find it odd not give a choice in the Appearance menu. You can still change it by typing:

gconftool-2 --set "/apps/metacity/general/button_layout" --type string "menu:minimize,maximize,close"

or if you prefer the GUI way please follow: https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/config-desktop/C/window-button-order.html

As for stability, it is very stable, fast and the booting experience was never better.

Hopefully Ubuntu 10.10 will deliver the dramatic change we all expected thanks to Gnome3.

Regards

Hello,

For people who use facebook, i created a group for organizing meetings.
Some will ask why not use this mailing list, the answer is for one
reason which is that facebook provides more reach to audience from
which more people will join us.

As someone was confused, i should mention that the group is not only
related to ubuntu but to open source as a whole.

Yes, I was the one that didn't get confused but mislead, I thought the Ubuntu-LB mailing list was for Ubuntu related subjects and discussions. Clearly, I was wrong to take that the former email to the list was also related to Ubuntu. I do not agree to sending irrelevant subjects to the Ubuntu-LB list and I do state it clearly. Ubuntu is Open Source but Open Source is not strictly Ubuntu...

I agree that you have a point when there are discussions on the
mailing list, but at this time when we are suffering from lack of
number of people here we can't talk about off topic and on topic
because we cannot have a group for each subject, try making a mailing
list for gentoo and another one for debian, etc... you will end up
with a one (person) to many (projects) scenario

The point here is to try to share a topic everyone can discuss, not
something irrelevant in my opinion. This is not a reason to send
unrelated subjects here.

there already is a mailing list for open source communities and most
probably for lebanese ones.

> list for gentoo and another one for debian, etc... you will end up

There already is for Gentoo and Debian.

> with a one (person) to many (projects) scenario

One can only subscribe to the lists he wants to, subscribing to every
list that comes your way would be a bit overloading and you wouldn't
have time to manage them all...

But this already happened and I think the subject took a lot of time
and energy, a lot more of what it should deserve, there shouldn't be
an explanation on why not to send here, it should come naturally...
Discussion from my part is over...

Subject: Ubuntu-LB Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

I just upgrade to LL, first I thought it wouldn't look really good in
pink or violet as I saw pictures of it all over the internet. I guess
the Ubuntu team proved me wrong, and I'm happy about it.
Now the close, minimize and maximize are all on the left, it is weird,
we have to get used to it or do something about it, changing the theme
does not change the placement, there should be somewhere to change
it... Anyway it doesn't matter, we gotta get used to it for now.
Ubuntu Software Center, on LL freezes a bit when handling more then 4
or 5 installations in the queue, I'm pretty sure it will become more
stable with a little of time and update, as always.
There is one thing that pisses me off like really bad, I was used to
click on Rhythmbox and it would open from tray, now it gives me a
list, the same I used to have when I right clicked, it takes too much
time and effort, I put it on shortcuts but I yet have to get used to
it. It is hard changing habits but oh well it should happen one day or
another.

Other then that, I think it is great, new features on my laptop work
now, not the bluetooth of course, I have to yet test the webcam, used
to crash everything on Cheese. We'll see how that goes. But nice job
on LL so far.

What are your feedbacks on LL ?
