I don't have enough of a track record here to qualify, but I do moderate
quite a number of Ubuntu lists (including ubuntu-devel-announce and
ubuntu-devel, which get a lot of spam traffic) so can share some
experience. Have you tried using the listadmin package? It really makes
moderation a lot easier, as you don't have to deal with clicking around
in mailman's web interface.

You just need a ~/.listadmin.ini that looks like this:

  log /home/yourusername/.listadmin.log
  username your-email-address at example.org
  adminurl https://{domain}/mailman/admindb/{list}
  password moderation-password-for-list
  ubuntu-l10n-eng at lists.ubuntu.com
  password moderation-password-for-other-list
  ubuntu-something-else at lists.ubuntu.com
