Hopefully yes, particularly if upstream has already chosen one way of
doing things, it's only polite to at least notify them, and they may
have thought of plus/minus points people here haven't.

Besides it's a semi-informal Ubuntu policy to push as many changes
upstream as possible. It'll make pulling in new translations for future
releases easier to do - the more work that happens upstream, the less
this team has to bother with. Also other distributions would have the
chance to benefit from this teams work.
