However, they do not translate to Scottish Council regions, which are
standard definitions for postal purposes as well as political.

Therefore the more generic "region" would appear to me to be the safer
option. Also, for those living in cities, "county" would also be incorrect,
regardless of which part of the United Kingdom you were living in.
