John,
Given the small amount of RAM you have, it may be worth you running
Xubuntu. Xubuntu is designed to run on systems with lower specifications
than Ubuntu. From the download page (http://www.xubuntu.org/get):
"Xubuntu can run with 64 MB RAM, but it is strongly recommended to have
at least 128 MB RAM."
Also worth noting is that the live CD install method for Xubuntu
requires 192 MB of RAM, so you'd have to use the alternate install
method.
Regards,
davehat

Also ma PC is braned so I think its only the ram.The PC is Intel PIII,128Mb and 996MHz processor.I will try to increase ma RAM and see if it worksThanx again. John
