Hi Kagwe,
I am happy to note that you are up and running very fast! Welcome to
the world of Ubuntu!

To download packages through Windows and then install them on Ubuntu do
the following:
    1. Go to the Synaptic Package Manager. System >> Administration
>> Synaptic Package Manager. You will be asked for a password, type
the one you used to login.

   2. Search for the package you want to download.
   3. Mark it to install. DO NOT click on apply. INSTEAD,
   4. Go to File, click on Generate Package download script.
What this does is that it generates all the URLs for the package
        including all its dependecies.
   5. When asked where to save the script, save it on a flash disk.
   6. Now on your windows machine, open the file you saved and just
paste the URLs to your browser and download the packages, to your
flash key.
   7. Now go back to your Ubuntu machine and install them. And you are
done!
To install a .deb package, which is what you are downloading, you can
just double click on it.

HTH,
Kinuthia....
