[ubuntu-jp] Kodak USB picture card reader が使えません。

つい最近、ubuntu を使いはじめたまったくの初心者です。
usb　は通常差し込めば自動に認識されるはずだと思うのですが。認識されません。
the official ubunut book　のトラブルシューティングのページに書いてある。
System>Preferences>Removable Drives and Media　もチェックしました。
Place>Computer> もチェックしました。
コマンドも
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt
mount: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist
となってしまいます。

何か方法はないでしょうか。
