Ciao,
secondo me hai scaricato un pacchetto per la distribuzione Slackware (che 
hanno per estensione '.tgz') e non contiene sorgenti da compilare.
Non credo possano funzionare su ubuntu, probabilmente neanche convertendolo 
con alien (versioni di librerie diverse, diverso compilatore, ecc...).
