netboot doesn't get dhcp

pxe boot both jaunty and karmic installer from:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386

box has to of these:
03:04.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet
Pro 100 (rev 08)

works fine on a box with 2 of these
03:06.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5701
Gigabit Ethernet (rev 15)

When I try to manually config the nic:

"E100_request_firmware failed to load firmware "e100/d101m_ucode.bin"
file not found

I cant find it either.
