<div>Hi,<br>
<br>
Oracle Java is built from OpenJDK. During the build process, where
possible, they use proprietary libraries if they are better than
the available open source ones present in OpenJDK - e.g fonts,
graphics, cryptography, DRM, etc - leading to subtle differences
in the JVMs. A Java expert can tell us more.<br>
<br>
The only reason Oracle provides an RPM is because it already
builds the Java packages for its Unbreakable Linux (itself built
from Red Hat).<br>
<br>
What happens is software with extensive requirements (like
tax-filing) gets built and tested only against one implementation
of the JVM (which is Oracle, because nobody ever got fired for
suggesting Oracle, or Microsoft, IBM, HP, etc.) and then it
stumbles when used against another JVM.<br>
