Thanks a lot Sanjay. I did follow the steps which are pretty straight forward and I am able to use my LAN repository now. But the problem that led me to order DVDs and create local repository has not been resolved. Whenever I try to do apt-get install, it takes ages to install a software. The normal download speed at my place is about 40-50 kbps but when I do "apt-get install" it slows down to B p/s(Bytes per second). The download with apt starts with the maximum speed but it gradually slows down. I thought the local repository will be faster but it disappointed me, the fact now is apt is MUCH MORE SLOWER downloading stuff from local repository than it used to be while fetching packages from internet.<div>

</div></div><div>I have used apt-cacher in the past to do something similar and it worked like a charm. There's a HOWTO here: <a href="http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-set-up-a-repository-cache-with-apt-cacher" target="_blank">http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-set-up-a-repository-cache-with-apt-cacher</a> . You basically install apt-cacher on the server machine, use the <a href="http://import.pl" target="_blank">import.pl</a> script (described on page 2 of the HOWTO), import all the packages from your repository dvds, change the sources.list file on all the client machines, and you should be good to go. The added advantage of this is that when any machine on the network gets a new package or updates an existing package, the same will be available to all other machines on the network locally, without having to fetch it from the internet.<br>
