Dear Sir,

thanks for all of you - in replying to my mail, which even was not sent to anyone in particular.

Generally, even if addressed to someone in particular, we dont expect answers. Thanks for so many people giving so much information.

And, to all of you, I solved this by installing Jaunty in the same partition which it was earlier installed. Except the fact that i had to mine the datas from the other partitions to this Jaunty partition, it was no problem at all. In fact it is now even better.

now i have - jaunty, xp & open suse 11 too, all booting from grub. it works... no problem.

thanks all of you, for the help given now, and for those help which will be given later (due to my bungling)

Hello,

8.04 is a long term stable release, it is good if you're facing issues
with certain types of hardware eg. Intel video cards. Jaunty has a lot
of new features and new versions of software compared to 8.04 and is
the new long term release.

If you can live with slightly older versions of software in lieu of
stability with your hardware setup then I would recommend 8.04.
Otherwise Jaunty is fine.

Regards,
Ritesh
