[ubuntu-in] Need to connect an 80 gig ipod to ubuntu

Hi

I need to connect an ipod 80 GIG to my Ubuntu 12.04.
Have installed gtkpod, ifuse, amarok, etc - bt my device does not show up ??

lsusb shows nothing
dmesg shows the following when i connect the ipod
$ sudo dmesg -c
[ 9913.656083] usb 2-2: new full-speed USB device number 95 using uhci_hcd
[ 9913.776122] usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
[ 9914.000104] usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71

Any ideas on how i can connect the ipod
