Many thanks for your tip. I was unaware about ibus, as 9.04 is still
running on my laptap and in that distribution scim was the main input
method.

I now have ibus up and running in 11.10 on the netbook. But the problem
I face is that when I type in Hindi, the spacing of letters is abnormal.
It adds spaces where I am not putting them. For example, if I type
"हिन्दी", then it will appear in gedit as "हि न्दी". So it is putting
spaces in the middle of words as well as placing extra spaces between
words. How can this be fixed?

Cheers,
Swarup
