Hi
a few days back i was grappling with two problems (both separately)
one - to easily compress pdf's (make them smaller)
and two - try to decrypt some permissions on some pdf's (this
particular set of files did not allow merging, splitting etc - they
had some restrictions on them and every time i tried pdftk, pdf
shuffler, pdfsam etc i was confronted with a need for a password)
the latter problem i could not figure easily. The only solution was to
print the pdf's as pdf's and then do the merging - it resulted in huge
files.
The first problem came later and i found this script which allowed one
to very easily compress pdf's.
On a whim i tried it on these restricted files and voila it worked -
not only did the file sizes come down the permissions got blown away
and am able to do what i want with the restricted files
any way the result of blowing away of permissions is a *very good side
effect* for al already good script
so here's the link to the script - it uses ghostscript (gs)
