I hit this problem long time back, and if I remember correctly I needed to
update gspca driver and then check if the camera works in v4l2ucp.

Don't know if this is valid in ubuntu 10.10, but this is what worked for me

My friend uses ubuntu 10.10 in his desktop.
His webcam is not working properly (no image in cheese)
the lsusb command shows.
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0c45:613c Microdia PC Camera (SN9C120)
Any hope?
