The mentioned bug only affects cards prior to Geforce 6000 series, mine is a
newer GTS250 card based on GT200 chipset. I have managed to install it now
by using the internal upgrade mechanism and downloading the whole OS all
over again.

The OS looks pretty good and ready for primetime but the installation issues
add a Vista...ish feel to it. Everyone has their day it seems.
