[ubuntu-in] audio stopped working

this happens to me every few weeks, since i apply regular updates to my
ubuntu 9.04
the culprit is alsa in my case,which stops working with every kernel update
and other related updates.
so i download the latest and newer version of kernel, and just hit
./configure, install, and make install.

works everytime.
