has more than the ideal no of kernels taking up space that is the issue.

For comparison, my /boot is 18.6MB. I remove old kernels when i update the
kernels, but do it only after i have booted with the new kernel atleast
once.

separate /boot if you play around with its a lot.

I dont know whether it will work, but removing the oldest kernels should
free up some space to give some working space for the system to do what it
was trying to do in /boot. then probably apt get will work. Let others pitch
in with what they think.
