Does yous system also has windows?
Does both 9.10 and 10.04 have 10 gb or the main root is of 10gb???
also try reinstalling the OS, i think you r problem will get resolved.
Dont worry its not an issue of RAM because ubuntu uses only 256mb of ram and
1gb is sufficient
