[ubuntu-in] question about Localhost- Var/www

Dear friends
when i want try to see such directory which i put in the below (Var/www) it
showing error, but when i'm going to the directory by
Places/computer/filesystem/var/www  all the file is there but when i try to
see them by cd code or ls -la it's impossible in the terminal. what i should
i do about that?

root at lovely-I:/home/brian# cd var/www
bash: cd: var/: No such file or directory



actually it working till i use this code /var/www# chmod -R
www-data.www-data
