[ubuntu-in] Automount ext4 partition in ubuntu 10.04

I think you have mounted the ext4 partition with the correct options set.
My fstab entires are very similar to what you have setup:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1       ext4    defaults        0       2

i think you should set the permissions for the files and folders within the
mounted partition for normal users to be able write into it.

Run these commands to change the permission of the files within the mounted
Partition:
sudo chown -R <username>:<groupname> /media/DISK1_VOL2
sudo chmod -R 755 /media/DISK1_VOL2
