^^^ I don't think Virtualbox does that (detect the XP installed on the
physical machine). You have the option of creating a new instance of a
virtual machine or using an existing VDI file.

You can either migrate your existing XP installation to a VDI file
(virtualbox image) but as far as I know it is a convoluted process involving
intermediate tools like qemu. You can install XP on a new virtual machine.
Instructions to do so can be had here [1]. It is for an older version of
Ubuntu but the gist of it remains the same.
