I am facing similar issues, although I'm running the i386 version on
an AMD64 machine. However, I have this issue only in the dev version
of chrome, it seems to be working in firefox. Not sure if this is
related.

Did you file a bug? You could run your browser by prefixing ubuntu-bug
from the terminal or run dialog and then filing a report on the issue.
