[ubuntu-in] question about ubuntu 9.04 updates

Hi

Will trying to figure out a solution to my problem with being able to
use a USb serial device on Ubuntu 9.04 cam across a problem someone
else had

seems like the kernal itself might need to be updated

So my question is
I cannot access the net on Ubuntu 9.04 but can do so on Ubuntu 7.10 so
is there a way i can download the updates on the latter and then
install it on 9.04
