Did you try copying the fonts to ~/.fonts? That is the users personal
Fonts directory. You'll have to run fc-cache after copying the fonts,
and restart any programs you are using, for them to see the fonts, as
you've been doing.
Btw, there's a simpler way to access these locations, if you have
Konqueror installed (the KDE File Manager). Just enter 'fonts:///' in
the location bar, and you'll get the right folders. :)
