To make a Live CD you can use remastersys. Install Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Edubuntu/*buntu . Add / Remove packages to customize your distro. Then you can use remastersys to build a live cd .  However , the iso file created by remastersys generally exceeds 700 Mb.
