Because the mozilla packaging team takes lot of effort to make sure
firefox in repositories is well integrated in the desktop. There is no
guarantee of such integrations with upstream tar.
Also upstream tar links all the libraries statically. Which means that
if there is any security vulnerability in any of those libraries, you
are at the mercy of upstream to release a fixed firefox with new
library versions.
And the last release is that you have to keep watch for updated
firefox. Whereas if you are using the one from repositories, synaptic
does the job for you.
