[ubuntu-in] pidgin configuration for gtalk

Hi all ,
I had downloaded empathy ....n installed ......it showing me
.......network error .
Also i have tried.........www.google.com/ig  ......beta version gtalk
apps.....it also not working in UBUNTU 8.04 .
Same thing for gmail chat ...i mean under www.gmail.com .....chat is
not working in linux.....and it says please check your network
administrater pidgin also in the list .

Is it problem with linux ? Please tell me what to check now? Whats the
problem can u guess?
I have no great knowledge of linux.
And no near by personal help which i can take so please reply me .

But my net connection is working fine in win xp and all chat apps
working fine also i have no firewall .
