[ubuntu-in] php with oci8 compilation problems

hi all,
for last 3 days, i have been trying to install php 4/5 with oci8
driver. i searched and read many articles/tutorials, but all failed. i
have ubuntu hardy installed in server. then i installed apache,
modphp5 etc and all sort of dep libraries. installed oracle instant
client 10.0.2.4(devel+basic),ollowed ubuntu guide. but wheni do manual
compilation or  pecl,i get error 'oci library not found' also i set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the dir containing libs, symlinked libs as per
ubuntu guide. any suggestion/help would be great and appreciable.
