nope that never works because ps files always end up being bigger that the
original pdf

did that but the default pdf printer through evince - it simply blacked out
the images and created a 20 mb file
installed above pdf reader (non free) and tried to print through that and
186 mb became 120 mb - that is still some gain but not enough
will let you know result of kpdf etc
