had already done that

anyway did the above, downloaded 3.0 through synaptic and have it running

the reason i wanted 3.0 was to try the pdfimport extension
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/pdfimport

and it does not work , i get this error message , when trying to
install the extension

"loading component library failed:
file:///home/ram/,openoffice.org/3/user/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages/t95WYg_/pdfimport.oxt/pdfimport.uno.so"

so whats wrong, why won't this work
