Hi
Have been struggling with some niggling problems (well maybe more than
niggling) The original ubuntu is 7.04 with some partial upgrades /
updates from 7.10.
I also installed some additional packages to try and improve access to
other file systems and some auto mount tools and what has happened is
that vfat partitions on external USB devices like FAT32 an FAT16 file
systems don't get mounted.
the programs installed are automount, cdfs-src , fuseutils.
There is an VFAT partition on my laptop hard disk which mounts normally.
The error i get while trying to mount these external systems is
"Cannot Mount Volume
Unable to Mount the volume "S_disc'
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing
codepage or helper program or other error. In some cases useful infor is
found in syslog - try dmesg|tail or so"
then
ram-laptop:~$ dmesg |tail

[ 1037.760000] sdb: assuming drive cache: write through

[ 1038.292000] EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
[ 1837.152000] FAT: Unrecognized mount option "usefree" or missing value
which i don't understand ??
so whats this problem and how can it be resolved.
***
I have not done a full upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 because the first time
i did it crashed the x-org and i had to reinstall 7.04 and then do only
selective upgrades (of some packages) from 7.10. Also unable to install
7.10 because i have only the repository DVD's and not a boot cd / dvd.
thanks
ram
