[ubuntu-in] Ubuntu Installation Problem

Hi,

I have a dual boot XP/ Ubuntu 6.06 machine (40GB, 256MB RAM). I have been
trying to upgrade the system to Ubuntu 7.1 through the liveCD, but doesn't
work. Everytime I try to install, the system stops responding as soon as the
install says 'detecting file systems.' At first, I thought I had a problem
with the installer CD. So, downloaded again, and tried, but didn't work.

I've done all the checks (memory check, CD check, etc.), and everything
seems to be in place. And I had installed 6.06 from the same CD drive. What
could be the problem?
