Install Sun Java runtime and also the plugin for Mozilla Firefox browser (if
you did not do so already).
Step 1 : Open AddRemove Programs. It will ask for your linux user account
password, give it when it asks.
Step 2 : In the search box write Java, it will show you some Java related
programs, from which you please select a) 'Sun Java 5.0 runtime' and b)
'Java 1.4 plugin for Mozilla Firefox' OR only a) Sun Java 6 Web Start.
Install this package. Hope it will solve your problem.

In this fashion you can install Flash plugins too.

hope this helps.
