I would recommend LinuxMint  too.
However, I'm currently using Ubuntu 7.10 with Firefox 2.0.0.12 and when I
tried out the Bank websites, Firefox prompted to "Install missing plugin",
wherein I installed Sun Java 6.0 , and that was it.
