Normally the DHCP router is set to provide DHCP ip's by default in which
case you just need o connect the network cable to your linux machine and
ensure that the in Network manager the network option wired is set to DHCP
and not static.

To cross check what typ of connection that you have (in windows)

use command line
Windows plus R
type cmd or command and enter
and use the "ipconfig -all" command
this will give you all the detaisl you require to cross check

Another more advanced method - which allows you to fiddle around with the
BSNL router itself is to type
http://192.168.0.1 (the normal default ip address of the router) in your web
browser this will lead you to an interface of the router

the exact ip of the bsnl router can be got from your ipconfig command

the same method can be used in Ubuntu as well.
