I can understand, first please tell me whether this USB interface is 
detected or not. Please check whether there is any interface for USB in 
ifconfig command?
You should get something like eth1 or eth2 , on mine Airtel(Beetel) is 
shows as eth2.
Again, am not asking to tell the output of *lsusb*, just the interfaces 
listed in *ifconfig*

Another method is keep the terminal open and type
*tail -f /var/log/messages*
This will show you the log, and keeps itself updated every time. Now 
plug in the USB cable and note whether anything in log shows. Please 
tell us what log appears.
