Plugin your modem, switch it on, wait for the ADSL link to get stable
(It takes a couple of minutes).

Open up a terminal and type
sudo pppoeconf

Answer the first step in affirmative, pppoeconf will start looking for
any modem connected to your machine.

Kindly do this first and report whether it finds any modem or not. If
it finds, the rest of the steps would be pretty easy. Just provide
your DataOne login details when asked, leave all other settings at
their defaults. It will ask you whether you want to start the
connection automatically when you start the computer. Answer either
yes or no, whichever you like. If you don't want to start the
connection automatically, you can start it manually at any time by
typing
sudo pon dsl-provider
and it can be disconnected by typing
sudo poff
