I also recently had problems with Broadcom wireless on openSUSE. I
followed some online steps and the got the thing to detect but it
would not connect. What I had to do differently is download latest
Windows XP 32-bit drivers for my model (4321) to make sure it was
included in the .INF file, previous file only had support upto model
4320. Only then it started working!

What I mean to say is, dont blindly follow steps you read online
because the model numbers might not match and might not be part of any
downloaded files. You need to download and extract latest driver
package and try.

I blacklisted the bcm43xx driver, installed ndiswrapper and did
"ndiswrapper -i blah.inf" followed by other steps, hope this may be
relevant for Ubuntu and your wifi model.
