Are you using alternative i386 cd ? and whats the processor speed and RAM size please?

I've been desperately trying to install Ubuntu on a Pressario 900
laptop. After installation, the system freezes after the
"Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel." message.

Will be glad for any help on this.
